India - Teachers' Day
National Teachers’ Day is celebrated in many countries as a special holiday dedicated to honoring teachers for their contributions. The date of the holiday varies from country to country. For example, Teachers’ Day in India is celebrated on September 5 to commemorate Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan, a renowned Indian philosopher and statesman.
Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan was born on September 5, 1888. He made a successful academic career, having lectured in several Indian and British universities. Although he did not take an active part in the struggle for India’s independence, he started a political career when the country became independent. He served as the 1st Vice President of India and the 2nd President of India.
