05SEP2019 - News - Hyunsung MCT places debut ship order at Daehan

South Korean company Hyunsung MCT has placed its debut ship order at domestic yard Daehan Shipbuilding for the construction of an LPG-fuelled passenger/car ferry.

According to shipbroking sources, the 20,000 gt, 930-passenger ropax will be delivered in January 2021 and is expected to be the world’s first LPG-fuelled ropax vessel.

Last year, a group of South Korean companies include Hyunsung MCT, and US gas turbine engine developer GE jointly signed a contract to develop a bunkering hub and related infrastructure to fuel LPG-fuelled vessels.
