New Zealand - Waitangi Day
Waitangi Day is a public holiday in New Zealand celebrated on February 6. It honors a significant event in the country's history, the signing of the Treaty of Waitangi in 1840.
The Treaty of Waitangi was signed on February 6, 1850 by Māori chiefs and representatives of the British Crown. The treaty brought New Zealand into the British Empire. It was supposed to give Māori the rights of British subjects, but they eventually lost much of their land and were treated unequally.
