Glen Burnie, MD- Talen Energy is seeking a qualified Fuel Analyst to join our growing team! The incumbent will record and document power plant fuel inventories to track and settle various fuel related contracts. He/She will monitor and maintain fuel related data to ensure compliance with structured transactions and contracts. The incumbent will perform periodic coal and fuel oil inventory surveys. He/She will calculate cash flow impact of supply schedules for treasury. The incumbent will work closely with the Sr. Fuel Scheduler to assist with managing fuel inventory supply. EOE M/F/D/V

Primary Responsibilities

Validate coal, fuel oil and limestone supply, transportation, and consumption documents to ensure accurate accounting.
Maintain detailed and complex spreadsheets for transaction backup and daily settlements.
Assist fuel scheduler with coal rail transportation schedule.
Track plant inventory and in-transit fuel shipments.  
Assist with the logistic coordination of train, truck and barge deliveries to various Talen plants.
Work with plant personnel to plan coal, oil, and limestone transportation around equipment outages to effectively manage supply contracts.
Back-up Sr. Fuel Scheduler, communicate with the power stations, coal mine operators, railroad operations/scheduling departments, coal terminals, oil terminals, oil carriers, rail car leasing agents, tug operators, stevedores, port operators, international vessel operators, and internal personnel to provide updated schedules as they evolve.
Work with Coal & Oil Supply Manager to support Talen’s fuel supply and transportation contract requirements (i.e. rail, truck, barge and rail car leasing, terminal, ocean freight, stevedoring, tug transportation, vessel agency, vessel surveys, coal quality lab work, US Customs entries).
Update Talen’s fuels accounting system daily and works with accounting to track inventories and book deals.
Monitor results of coal and oil samplings and analysis.
Support submittal of Energy Information Administration data to the Generation team.
Work some weekends and holidays to effectively cover fuel team responsibilities.
Travel as necessary to cover business needs and to attend transportation industry workshops and conferences.
Develop a complete understanding of Talen’s coal, oil, and limestone supply contracts.
Develop a complete understanding of Talen’s rail, marine and truck transportation contracts terms and conditions.
Manage rail car maintenance records.
Perform related job duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

BS degree in Accounting/Finance or related field is required.
Minimum of 5 years’ experience working a logistics oriented capacity is required.
Ability to manage and maintain complex Excel spreadsheets.
Ability to understand and interpret fuel related contracts.
Ability to investigate and analyze information and to draw conclusions.
Knowledge of cost analysis techniques.
Ability to complete complex administrative tasks.
Strong interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to work effectively both independently and in a team environment with a wide range of constituencies in a diverse community.
Ability to resolve customer complaints and concerns.
Ability to use independent judgment and to manage and impart confidential information.
Demonstrates the ability to interact well within a team environment.
Strong financial accounting, analytical abilities with attention to detail.
Able to work accurately and independently with limited supervisory oversight.
Strong oral and written communication skills and ability to interact with various departments and managers.

Working Conditions

Work is normally performed in a typical interior/office work environment but field work at power stations is required at times
