In Australia and Timor-Leste our exciting portfolio includes the Bayu-Undan gas-condensate field in the Timor Sea, Darwin LNG facility in the Northern Territory and Australia Pacific LNG facility in Queensland.  
The Marine Director is responsible for all marine operational support within the Australia West Business Unit. The Marine Director’s primary responsibility is to lead the marine group in providing support for Bayu-Undan Operations, Darwin marine activities, DLNG terminal marine activities, drilling support, vessel logistics, contracting marine services, and new projects such as Barossa & Decommissioning activities.

Key Role and Responsibilities

  • Work closely with Bayu-Undan management, Darwin Logistics and contracted vessels to maximize efficiency of vessel schedules.
  • Provide marine support to the BU to achieve safer and efficient operations, including but not limited too; infield support vessels, offshore support vessels, anchor handling vessels, accommodation support vessels, offtake tanker towage, hot shot call outs, drilling support, offshore buoy maintenance, anchor handling, subsea IMR vessels, tank cleaning and rig moves.
  • Strong engagement and collaboration with Supply Chain during the tender and evaluation process to ensure the correct vessel owner and vessel specification is awarded for all direct hire contract and subcontract award.
  • During technical evaluation of marine vessel owners and vessel specifications, ensure the safety management system and vessel owner shore side support meets ConocoPhillips standards.
  • Ensure the correct level of marine representation is available for any marine operations including; piloting, rig moving, subsea project work, anchor handling, pre-lay operations, tanker towing, vessel shipyards, regulator vessel inspections, etc…
  • During projects, campaigns and operations, hold the vessel contractor accountable to their safety management system, risk assessments, hazids and ABUW Marine Operations policies and procedures as agreed under the specific contract.
  • Collaborate with Global Marine Vetting Specialist to ensure proper marine assurance are aligned with corporate insurance of all marine activities.
  • Engage in continuous improvement for the BU from a marine perspective including; policies, procedures, terminal handbook and marine operations manual updates, safety aspects, environmental aspects, Risk Assessments, HAZIDs, contingency plans and revenue / budget items.
  • Ensure the marine team develops and delivers vessel specific and accurate marine operational bridging documents, mobilization action trackers, and vessel inductions to contracted vessels.
  • Ensure all Marine Incident Investigations are accurately completed and closed out.
  • Optimize vessel technical abilities for maximized efficiencies. Develop an atmosphere that promotes innovative opportunities while creating successful change to marine operations. Adapt legacy marine operations to drive a safe and reliable operations while delivering cost savings opportunities into end of field life. 
  • Engage in career development and advancement for marine team members; including updated goals, supervisor reviews, continuous IDP editing, leadership competencies, and employee profiles.

To be successful in this role, you will demonstrate the following experience and qualifications: 
Required

  • Master Mariner Certificate with LNG Tanker and or / LNG Terminal experience or Bachelor Science from an Internationally Recognized Maritime Academy Qualification.
  • Person-in-Charge of Liquid Bulk Transfer Endorsement
  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience as a Senior Marine Officer on LNG, LPG or Crude tankers.
  • Field experience and strong understanding of offshore marine operations including; platform support vessels, dynamic positioning, offshore & onshore cargo operations, anchor handling, rig moves, heavy lifts, tanker shiphandling, towage of tankers, and hydrocarbon offtake scheduling & coordination.
  • Demonstrates the following qualities; Strong leadership skills, ability to research problems, effectively handle stress, ability to meet deadlines, works well under pressure, effective team leader, provide solutions to management. 
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong fundamental understanding of industry standard such as; OCIMF, ISGOTT and IM
