Miami based expedition cruise ship owner SunStone Ships has recently exercised an it option to construct an additional ice-class expedition vessel at China Merchants Heavy Industry shipyard. In 2017, SunStone signed a contract with CMHI calling for the construction of a single ice-class expedition vessel to be built by CMHI in China. The contract included options for a total of nine additional vessels. Construction of the first vessel, named ‘Greg Mortimer’, is already underway at CMHI with delivery scheduled for Q4 2019. Upon delivery, she will be chartered by Aurora Expedition of Australia. This second ship, which is scheduled for delivery in August 2020, will also be chartered by Aurora Expedition.
