Italy - Carnival of Cento
The Carnival of Cento is one of the most famous carnivals in Italy. It is held every winter in Cento, a town in the province of Ferrara. The Cento Carnival is different from most European carnivals because it is an amalgamation of European and Brazilian carnival traditions.
The exact age and origin of the Carnival of Cento are unknown, but it dates back at least to the 17th century because depictions of scenes from the Carnival can be found on frescoes by the Italian Baroque painter Giovanni Francesco Barbieri, best known as Guercino.
