USA - Flag Day
June 14 is Flag Day in the USA. This holiday commemorates the adoption of the flag of the U.S. by the Continental Congress in 1777.
In 1777 the Second Continental Congress adopted the Stars and Stripes as an official flag of all free states. Later it became the state flag of the USA. The formal observance of Flag Day began in 1885, when Bernard J. Cigrand, a grade school teacher in Waubeka, Wisconsin, held it at the Stony Hill School. In the end of the 1880s he promoted the patriotism, respect for the flag and the need for an annual observance of Flag Day.
