Japan - Respect for the Aged Day
Japan is known to be the country of long-living people. Elderly people are respected there and even have their own public holiday, that is known as Respect for the Aged Day. This holiday is annually observed on the third Monday in September.
Celebration of this holiday origins at the town of Taka, Hyōgo Prefecture. In 1947 the authorities of the town proclaimed September 15 to be Old Folk's Day. The holiday became very popular in other prefectures across Japan and already in 1966 it took its present name and status.
