Key Responsibilities / Tasks

• In charge of all legal issues and tasks at the company including the management of commercial agreements in mainly English law (purchase and sales contracts and supply guarantees etc.)
• Handle legal and compliance issues with external trading partners including potential/actual disputes about contractual commitments like demurrage and quality of the products, assist during the internally demurrage and claims processes, and ensure the company’s compliance in meeting contractual obligations
• Manage the negotiations, drafting and reviews of letters of credit (L/C) and guarantees as well as loan agreements with banks, companies, and physical persons under Swiss and English law while developing strategies to improve internal contracts processes
• Assist during the KYC clearances, ensure awareness of new legal requirements within the Swiss, English and Russian law/regulations, and handle legal translations of different documents
• Reports into the Chief Operating Officer

Key Qualifications / Experience

• Degree in law with a specialization in commercial law and strong understanding of corporate and financial law; Master of Laws (LLM) degree from the UK is an advantage
• International work experience (8+ years) as a legal counsel, legal advisor/adviser, lawyer, attorney or equivalent at an energy trading company (preferably focus on oil and oil products)
• Very strong knowledge of English Law & Arbitration is required
• Fluency in English is a must, Russian language skills highly desired
• Located in/near Zurich or happy to relocate within Switzerland (Swiss citizenship or Swiss work permit C or B required)
