23JAN2019 - NEWS - Sinopec’s Shanghai refinery produces its first batch of low sulphur bunker fuel

Sinopec’s Shanghai refinery has recently produced its first batch of low-sulphur bunker fuel totaling 6,000 tonnes. The Shanghai refinery is the first in China to produce low sulphur fuel oil to meet new IMO rules. International Maritime Organization (IMO) will ban ships from using fuel oil with a sulphur content above 0.5 percent, compared with 3.5 percent now, unless they are equipped with exhaust scrubbers to clean up sulphur emissions, starting 2020.
