26APR2019 - NEWS - World first container ship to run on LNG has taken LNG bunkers in Baltic sea

WES AMELIE, the world’s first container ship to run on LNG, has taken on bunkers from LNG bunker ship KAIROS in the Baltic Sea in smooth ship-to-ship refueling operation. The operation, the first of its kind for WES AMELIE and in the Baltic, took place at anchor off the Swedish port of Visby. WES AMELIE is owned by Wessels Reederei, who had the vessel retrofitted for dual fuel propulsion by MAN Diesel & Turbo in 2017, in collaboration with TGW Marine Gas Engineering. The 1000 TEU vessel, built in 2011, is operated is operated in Unifeeder’s liner service between Rotterdam and Baltic Sea ports. KAIROS, with a capacity of 7500 m3, is the world’s largest LNG bunker vessel. She was built by Hyundai Mipo ship yard in Ulsan and is owned by Babcock Schulte Energy. Presently the vessel is chartered by Blue LNG, a joint venture of Nauticor GmbH (90%) and Klaipedos Nafta (10%).
