28JUN2019 - NEWS - Government announces Shell is applying for LNG bunkering licence at Gibraltar's port

The government has announced that Shell is applying for an LNG bunkering licence at Gibraltar's port.

This follows the opening of the Rock's LNG-fuelled power plant last month, although Shell has emphasised that, should the licence be granted, any LNG bunkering would be entirely separate from the power plant and any LNG fuel supply at the port would be carried out by ship-to-ship transfer.

Minister for the Port, Gilbert Licudi, welcomed the announcement, saying "LNG is a cleaner fuel with significantly less emissions than conventional marine fuels".
