Spanish integrated firms Cepsa and Repsol expect 0.5pc sulphur fuel oil to form at least 50pc of total marine fuel demand at the Spanish port of Algeciras next year. Algeciras is Spain's largest bunkering port. Volumes there reached around 2.4mn t in 2018. This suggests Algeciras will be one of the largest European ports where 0.5pc fuel oil will be the main marine fuel after the International Maritime Organisation (IMO) sulphur cap comes into force on 1 January. Marine gasoil (MGO) is widely expected to be the most used marine fuel next year.
