U.S. crude oil inventories increased last week, but by a much smaller amount than expected by oil and gas industry group analysts. Crude inventories increased by 919,000 barrels according to the Energy Department's weekly report. The American Petroleum Institute, an industry group, had predicted a 2.1-million-barrel build. The EIA report also showed that gasoline inventories dropped by 2.24 million barrels, compared to expectations for a build of 2.80 million barrels, while distillate stockpiles decreased by 1.12 million barrels, compared to forecasts for a decline of 2.0 million.
