Libya - Liberation Day
Liberation Day is a Libyan public holiday celebrated on October 23. It commemorates the country's liberation from the regime of Muammar Gaddafi in 2011. Muammar Gaddafi seized power in Libya in 1969 by overthrowing King Idris I in a bloodless military coup. He abolished the monarchy and proclaimed a republic. In 1977, the country was officially named the Great Socialist People's Libyan Arab Jamahiriya.
New Zealand - Labour Day
Labour Day is a public holiday in New Zealand. It is celebrated annually on the fourth Monday in October. Many countries around the world have a holiday to celebrate achievements of workers, and New Zealand is now exception. Its Labour Day has its origin in the trade union movement, specifically eight-hour working day movement. The latter arose in the Wellington colony in 1840. Carpenter Samuel Duncan Parnell agreed to work no more than eight hours a day and encouraged other workers to follow his example.
