Iran - Performing Arts Day (Cultural Observances)
Performing Arts Day, also known as Theatre Day, is an Iranian cultural holiday celebrated on March 27 (7 Farvardin in the Solar Hijri calendar). This date was chosen to coincide with World Theatre Day, an international observance initiated in 1961 by the International Theatre Institute.
Performing Arts Day in Iran was initiated by the Supreme Council of the Cultural Revolution, an executive body established by Ayatollah Khomeini. The decision to add a new holiday to the Iranian calendar was announced at a session of the Supreme Council on August 23, 2016. The first celebration took place on March 27, 2017.
