16OCT2018 - NEWS - Scorpio tankers to fix 90 ships with scrubbers to comply with imo2020

Scorpio Tankers announced its plans to fit 90 vessels with scubbers to comply with imo2020 at an estimated cost of $1.5M-$2.2M per vessel. The IMO has mandated bunker sulfur limits to drop to 0.5% sulfur on Jan. 1, 2020, from 3.5% sulfur currently; the installation of scrubbers allows shipowners to continue using 3.5% sulfur bunkers, as the exhaust gas cleaning systems bring emissions in line with the 0.5% sulfur limit.
