Roles & Responsibilities
The Chartering Manager manages the chartering function and oversees a group of charterers in the execution of the organisation's chartering business, which includes managing resources and risks. This includes leveraging on networks to negotiate with various parties on bunkers, spot and time charter deals and marketing tonnage.
The Chartering Manager evaluates potential business development opportunities to ensure alignment to the organisation's business goals, profitability and competitiveness indicators. He/She is expected to source the optimal shipping solutions, maximising potential earnings in the most cost effective manner. He/She is able to synthesise complex concepts and information to distil them into actionable propositions based on information and research, and evaluates the pros and cons of alternative approaches before determining a resolution.
The Chartering Manager is a self-motivated individual who works independently to lead a team of Ship Charterers and support their efforts in accomplishing goals, providing guidance when necessary. He/She establishes systems and practices to encourage workflow improvements to enhance the business unit's productivity. He/She possesses excellent communication and interpersonal skills, and leverages on them to conduct complex negotiations.
Requirements
- Analyse the freight market to review existing trends and develop new strategies based on supply & demand.
- Build and develop new business pipelines to increase the organisations market share.
- Develop a framework and processes to manage business risk in chartering operations.
- Develop and maintain the organisations portfolio of clients.
- Develop strategies for resource planning and utilisation.
- Drive a culture of innovation and efficiency to ensure processes are productive.
- Formulate business growth proposals for fleet expansion.
- Foster and deepen relationships with clients.
- Lead a team of Ship Charterers.
- Monitor and manage performance of chartering business to optimise revenue for the business.
- Monitor the effectiveness of workflow improvements.
- Oversee negotiations relating to ship chartering.
- Review the utilisation of resources.
