All international cruise ships coming into New Zealand next year will be on lower emission fuels, but the Government can't take any of the credit. The international cruise industry has vowed to regulate shipping emissions, regardless of whether New Zealand signs up to an international treaty. A Cruise Lines International Association spokesman said this would mean cruise ships entering New Zealand would either use low-sulphur fuel or be fitted with compliant exhaust gas cleaning systems by January 1, 2020.
